The Story of EKKO Candle Co.

Candle, Soy Wax, Nashville, Small Business, Shop Local

Hello and welcome to the first ever EKKO Diaries!

For those of you that don't know, my name is Debbie DeJean. A few years ago when my twin sons left for college I realized it was the perfect time for me to begin something I had always dreamed about...starting my own business. And then came the creation of EKKO Candle Co. I want this introductory post to not only get you acquainted with the brand, but also the heart and inspiration behind it all. So, grab a cup of tea, light your favorite EKKO Candle, and enjoy.

I truly believe that growing up in the small, rural town of Pulaski, TN off a dirt road is where I got my artisan roots. That is where I learned from three female generations before me two very important things: how to work hard and how to find beauty in simplicity.  These ladies spent their days working and managing home and farm but still always took the time to plant flowers in the yard. I loved picking those flowers and arranging them in a jelly jar. I always found it so simple yet so beautiful. I carry these two lessons with me everywhere I go, even today. Being a small business owner I also have to work very hard sourcing my ingredients, hand-pouring candles, designing labels, and fulfilling orders, but there is truly nothing more beautiful to me than seeing these wonderful candles burning in the homes of my customers, my friends.

The first three scents I blended myself pay homage to those early years: Southern Home, Gilt & Grace, and Country Roads. The oils that make up these scents are among my favorite, which is why they are a part of our Original Collection. From there I discovered my passion for taking simple jars and filling them with beautiful scents, that then fill your homes with warmth and light.

My love for natural scents from all things botanical is at the core of making and blending our 100% soy wax candles. From the soy flakes to the fragrance and essential oils - all come from nature at its best. I believe in creating scents that take you back to a certain memory or time in your life. Scouting for the most perfect Christmas tree with your family, your grandmother's tea cakes baking in the oven, and running barefoot in the summer sun through the garden. EKKO is more than just a candle, it is the wonderful, simple, and wild echoes of your past, present, and future.

Three years in and I'm reminded now more than ever how important it is to find beauty in the simple. I hope that the EKKO Diaries can serve as a safe haven for you. Whether you're here to learn more about the company or candle making process or even if you just happened to come across this page, I welcome you, my friend. We will cover lots of topics: stories behind the candle scents, guest features, behind-the-scenes, recipes, and so much more. Stay tuned for more posts to come.

Wishing you love and light,

Debbie
